Stuart Ewens died from wounds on 2nd September, 1914, after having been sent to a base hospital in Rouen. The 1st Royal Lancaster battalion was part of 12 Brigade, 4th Division and had been heavily involved in the Battle of Le Cateau on 26th August, 1914 and it is very likely that this is where he was wounded.
